The Science of Mana

Interdisciplinary Units (IDUs) have a combination of subjects taught using a core theme. Usually the IDU centers around an essential question.

What is Energy?

While students learn from Kumu Makamae, they are also learning from Mrs. Prevenas. The main science benchmark that is taught and reinforced throughout this unit is Hawaii State Science Standard 1: Skills of Scientific Inquiry

In order to introduce this benchmark and skills, we need to do several activities. To do them most efficiently as well as learn lab scientist skills, Mrs. Prevenas plans a rotation lab. The students rotate through 5 different stations and do different activities at each one.

One of the sites in the rotation lab uses images taken by our own Vice Principal. Mr. Penrod Vladyka. Mr. Vladyka is the owner of an excellent sun and star viewing business. He publishes his cool photos on the internet.
